BIRTH DOULA
Unfortunately in our current obstetrical landscape finding a physician or a midwife that solely offers continuity of care during the course of your pregnancy and your delivery is becoming harder. Sometimes getting the care provider you'd prefer can be a feat in itself. A birth doula can offer a bridge to that gap. As an internationally certified and experienced labour doula, Loree is completely dedicated to providing you with non-judgemental, continuous support throughout pregnancy, your birth, and the early weeks of postpartum. While her role is non-medical, she believes in building strong relationships and providing you with the best in continuity of care.

Acts as a guide
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE...

You thought you were prepared, but you haven’t got a clue if these cramps are normal or not. You’re wondering what a mucous plug looks like and what's normal for bloody show. Your partner keeps telling you to go back to sleep, but your back hurts, and you don’t know what to do. Your friends say one thing, your mother has other ideas, and let’s not start on what the suggestions were on a Facebook group. Why does everyone think they have the right to tell you how you should or shouldn’t give birth? What’s a pregnant mom to do?

WHAT NOW?

Loree is your pregnancy expert and has mastered unbiased support. During pregnancy, she's readily available to answer your questions or concerns, reducing unnecessary stress. If you wish, she can help you access current information to make informed decisions, or even help you figure out your birth plan. Loree will provide you with the tools you need to make the decisions that are best for you, your baby and your family, without making you feel like you’ve made a wrong choice.

During labour, she'll know if it’s ruptured amniotic fluid, or if your bladder had a weak moment. She’ll help you decide when would be the best time to head to the hospital or call the midwife if you're having your baby at home. She excels at comfort measures, pain reduction techniques, counter-pressure, and massage. She’ll offer suggestions for positional changes and progression. She’ll even know when to time your epidural if you want one! Loree will wipe your brow, pass you water to drink, and encourage you— all without you having to ask for it.

Loree actively involves your partner to emotionally connect with you, guiding them in how to comfort you. She’ll also support them when they need it, after all, it’s their baby too. It can be hard to remain objective when witnessing someone you love in pain.

Loree knows the process of normal labour, and will help you navigate the trials and triumphs. She’ll help you understand your options and validate your fears, if medical interventions become a necessity or a home-to-hospital transfer is warranted.
Throughout her 25 years in Medicine Hat, Loree seamlessly works alongside other medical professionals with respect and courtesy. She is pivotal for parents during this emotionally and physically challenging time.
